Super Mario - Level

During my undergrad years, we were given an assignment of creating polished level for Super Mario Bros.Wii using the Level editor. Although this was team assignment where we were given one world, we had to make our own individual levels and balance them together. The project was completed over a period 3 months.

Topic & Role

Highlights of the project: Craft balanced levels for World 2 in Super Mario Bros.Wii. Two special levels, wind and darkness.

Team Size: 4 (Levels made individually)

Level 5 in World 2

Super Mario Bros.Wii project was given during undergrad years as part of the final project of second year. We were given World 2, and in this I had design level 3, which is a dark level, reliant on star power-up. I also had to design level 5, which had the wind feature.

Tools used: Reggie Editor, MS Excel, Illustrator

Level Design

My primary work was to re-create levels 3 and 5 of the Desert World in Reggie editor. For level 2-3, I had to teach the player how to get used to the darkness and the idea of a star. All elements were introduced in safe zones, so the player had ample time to learn.
In level 2-5, I had to use one unique feature, which is the strong wind. Although this feature could come as a bit overwhelming, I made sure that the player learned the pros of this feature first, rather than the cons (that is being pushed onto the spikes).

Glimpses of the development process and tilesets is provided below.
